Here is the Cutting Edge Metal team’s roundup of this week’s essential new metal releases…
Torchia — They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
About: Hailing from Tampere, Finland, Torchia have been carving out a niche in the melodic death metal world since the mid-2010s, and They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness marks their fourth full-length. Released via Rockshots Records and mastered by Dan Swanö, the album pushes the band beyond their thrash-inflected roots into darker, more atmospheric territory, drawing on gothic horror and occult themes. It's a mature, guitar-driven effort that balances tremolo-picked aggression with melodic hooks and orchestral texturing — a step up in focus and intensity from their previous release, Arcane Magicae (2024). Listen on Spotify.
Ingested — Denigration
Genre: Slam / Brutal Death Metal / Deathcore
About: Manchester's Ingested have been one of the UK's most formidable extreme metal exports since forming in 2006, evolving from underground slam pioneers into a globally recognized force across seven previous albums. Denigration is their eighth full-length on Metal Blade Records, and their first without founding vocalist Jason Evans — a significant transition that also saw last-minute vocal fill-ins from guitarists Sean Hynes and Andrew Virrueta. Produced by Nico Beninato at The Arch Studios in Southport, the album features guest appearances from John Gallagher of Dying Fetus and Damonteal Harris of PeelingFlesh, among others, and lyrically reckons with being ground down to your worst self and deciding what to do about it. Listen on Spotify.
Frozen Soul — No Place of Warmth
Genre: Death Metal
About: Fort Worth, Texas death metal outfit Frozen Soul have been one of the genre's most exciting acts since emerging in 2019 on Maggot Stomp with their debut EP Encased in Ice. No Place of Warmth is their third full-length on Century Media Records — following the critically acclaimed Glacial Domination (2023) — and was produced by Josh Schroeder at Random Awesome! Recording Studio. The album features guest appearances from Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, Robb Flynn of Machine Head, and Devin Swank of Sanguisugabogg, and delivers eleven tracks of no-frills, frostbitten old-school death metal built on massive riffs and relentless groove. Listen on Spotify.
Wormlord — Choices
Genre: Old School Death Metal
About: Wormlord are a Helsinki, Finland death metal outfit formed in 2019, drawing heavily from the classic HM-2-driven Swedish death metal sound. Choices is their sophomore album and follow-up to their 2023 debut Open Wounds, and was mastered by Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studios. The band is an independent self-release, and their nine-track approach continues their reputation for crushing, no-frills death metal with a distinctly Nordic edge and enough dynamic range to set them apart from the overcrowded OSDM pack. Listen on Spotify.
Eradikated — Wiring of Violence
Genre: Thrash Metal
About: Swedish thrashers Eradikated formed in 2014 under the name The Generations Army before rebranding in 2021, and their debut album Descendants (2023) earned a Swedish Grammis nomination in the Best Hard Rock/Metal category. Wiring of Violence is their second album, released via Indie Recordings, produced by Jakob Herrmann, with all artwork painted in real blood — a fitting statement for a record driven by sharp political and social commentary on war, inequality, and environmental destruction. The album blends classic thrash intensity with modern groove and crossover energy, drawing comparisons to Exodus, Sacred Reich, and Pantera. Listen on Spotify.
Without Mercy — Infinite Loss
Genre: Death Metal / Groove Metal / Metalcore
About: Vancouver, Canada's Without Mercy have been fusing groove-heavy rhythms with extreme metal intensity since forming in 2007, with a discography stretching back to All Else Fails (2007) and including Seismic (2020). Infinite Loss is a self-released three-track EP recorded under intentionally high-pressure conditions — the band left home for the first time to track the material in ten days in an unfamiliar environment, which shaped the record's themes of endurance, relentless pursuit, and survival under modern pressure. Musically, the EP draws on Meshuggah and Alluvial as touch points, filtered through the band's own dense, controlled approach to aggression. Listen on Spotify.
The Biscuit Merchant — Golden Age
Genre: Progressive Death Metal / Thrash Metal
About: The Biscuit Merchant is the solo project of Ann Arbor, Michigan musician Justin Lawnchair, who handles all guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals himself — with a live band assembled in recent years for performances. Golden Age is part of the project's wildly ambitious ALPHA concept: a planned 26-album series, one for each letter of the alphabet, designed to eventually play seamlessly from A to Z. This latest installment, the project's eleventh overall, is described as a return to tighter songwriting and heavier riffs after the proggy detour of Tempora (2025), with lyrics exploring the collapse of a society at the supposed peak of its power. It's self-released and independent, exactly in keeping with the Biscuit Merchant's uncompromising, genre-blurring ethos. Listen on Spotify.
