Here is the Cutting Edge Metal team’s roundup of this week’s essential new metal releases…
Zerre — Rotting on a Golden Throne
Genre: Crossover Thrash / Thrash Metal
About: Hailing from Würzburg, Bavaria, Zerre began as a modern hardcore band before reforming in 2022 and pivoting hard into thrash metal territory. Their sound draws heavily from the razor-sharp aggression of classic Metallica and Exodus, with a strong crossover and punk edge thrown into the mix. Rotting on a Golden Throne is their fourth full-length, out via Dying Victims Productions, and marks a decisive step forward — darker, more politically charged, and more aggressive than their 2024 predecessor Scorched Souls, diving headfirst into themes of power, corruption, and human decay. Listen on Spotify.
Hellripper — Coronach
Genre: Blackened Speed Metal
About: The brainchild of Scottish Highlands-based sole member James McBain, Hellripper has been a one-man wrecking crew since first taking shape in 2014, steadily building one of underground metal's most beloved discographies. Coronach is the fourth full-length, released via Century Media Records, and is deeply rooted in Scottish culture, history, and folklore — from Pictish mysteries to Victorian Gothic literature and Highland myth. Drawing from influences as wide-ranging as Venom, Mercyful Fate, Watain, Opeth, and even Manic Street Preachers, McBain has crafted his most ambitious and dynamic record yet, with the eight-track, 44-minute album featuring new instruments, clean vocals, and progressive passages alongside the breakneck blackened speed assault he's become known for. Listen on Spotify.
Party Cannon — Subjected to a Partying
Genre: Slam / Brutal Death Metal / Goregrind
About: Scotland's beloved purveyors of "party slam," hailing from Dunfermline, Party Cannon have carved out a wonderfully absurd niche in extreme metal's underground over the past decade — think brutal death metal wrapped in birthday party aesthetics and delivered with gleefully moronic self-awareness. Subjected to a Partying is a new EP via Unique Leader Records that breaks their sound down into four distinct components — slam, goregrind, early-2000s brutal death metal, and New York death metal — across four original tracks, accompanied by remixes from Kmac2021, Frontierer, and Ritual Studio, plus live tracks recorded in Glasgow. Notably, the EP is also being released on a Nintendo 64 cartridge. Listen on Spotify.
Melting Rot — Infatuation with Premeditation
Genre: Grindcore / Deathgrind
About: Formed in Illinois in 2017, Melting Rot stormed into the underground with a pair of EPs and a three-way split before releasing their debut full-length Blood Delusions in 2021 via Headsplit Records. Infatuation with Premeditation is the band's second full-length, out via Hells Headbangers, and delivers 11 tracks in a ferocious 18-minute runtime that draws from Dead Infection, Excruciating Terror, and mid-2000s Regurgitate. The album features a guest vocal appearance from Exhumed's Matt Harvey on the track "Morbid Infatuation." Listen on Spotify.
Asylum TX — Cultus Inoxia
Genre: Blackened Death Metal
About: Fort Worth, Texas death metal outfit Asylum TX describe their sound as "psychedelic trauma meets emergency medicine," and their independent output reflects a band with a genuinely singular approach to extreme metal. Their prior releases include the 2021 full-length Sharpen, a self-released technical death metal effort that earned them a foothold in the underground. Cultus Inoxia is their latest self-released effort, continuing the band's trajectory into darker, more blackened territory. Listen on Spotify.
Mysidia — Children of Depravity
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
About: Mysidia are a melodic death metal band from Southern California, active since 2012 and widely admired in underground melodeath circles for the sweeping, technically accomplished God of a New World. The band returned in early 2025 with the Wasteland Queen EP, which was tracked and mixed at Sunsick Studios and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Children of Depravity is their latest independent release, continuing the band's focus on aggressive, melody-driven death metal in the vein of acts like Fires in the Distance. Listen on Spotify.
Nociception — Cognitive Dismemberment
Genre: Death Metal
