Engorgement — They Rot Beneath Our Floor

Genre: Brutal Death Metal / Slam

About: UK brutal death metal outfit Engorgement formed in 2009 and return with their long-awaited sophomore full-length, over thirteen years on from their debut Excruciating Intestinal Lacerations. The album is out via Comatose Music, the North Carolina-based independent label specializing in brutal and extreme metal. They Rot Beneath Our Floor is exactly what it promises — an unrelenting ten-track assault of punishing slam, guttural vocals, and catastrophic rhythms that deliver the band's most fully realized statement to date. Listen on Spotify.

Graufar — Via Necropolis

Genre: Black/Death Metal

About: Formed in Linz, Austria in 2020, Graufar deliver their self-released second album, following their 2024 debut Scordalus. The band writes in both English and German, blending black metal screams with death metal growls across seven tracks that tackle themes of transience, death, and social criticism. Graufar won the Wacken Metal Battle Austria in 2024 and competed at Wacken Open Air, steadily building a reputation in the European underground. Listen on Spotify.

Türböwitch — Under Haunted Skies

Genre: Blackened Speed Metal

About: Budapest's Türböwitch formed in 2016 and release their third full-length via Time To Kill Records, following 2022's Fullmoon Liquorthropy. Rooted in the raw punk-fueled fury of '80s extreme metal, the band channels the spirit of acts like Midnight and Hellripper into ten tracks of post-apocalyptic blackened speed-thrash. They won the Wacken Metal Battle Hungary in 2024 and spent March 2025 on the road supporting Enforcer across Europe. Listen on Spotify.

Gutvoid — Liminal Shrines

Genre: Progressive Death Metal

About: Toronto quartet Gutvoid formed in 2019 and deliver their sophomore full-length via Profound Lore Records, the first half of a planned two-part conceptual work. Building on their 2022 debut Durance of Lightless Horizons and the 2024 EP Breathing Obelisk, the band blends cavernous death metal with progressive rock songwriting and cosmic horror atmospherics. Cover art is provided by Kjell Åge Meland, and the band has confirmed a sister album is already in development. Listen on Spotify.

Cultist — Spiritual Atrophy

Genre: Death Metal

About: Calgary, Canada's Cultist return with their sophomore album via Awakening Records, with a vinyl edition to follow on Futhark Records. Their 2022 debut Manic Despair earned praise for its punishing aggression and otherworldly atmosphere, and Spiritual Atrophy builds on that foundation with a more riff-forward approach drawing comparisons to Morbid Angel and Immolation. The album's lyrical themes explore the band's own experiences with occultism, documented across nine tracks of visceral, stripped-back death metal. Listen on Spotify.

Tanork — Diskar

Genre: Death Metal

About: Rennes-based trio Tanork formed in 2020 in Brittany, France and release their second album via Musiko Eye, following their self-released 2024 debut Destined to Die... One of the band's defining characteristics is their choice to write entirely in the Breton language — a deliberate act of linguistic identity in a region where singing in Breton is typically associated with folk music. Musically, they draw on early Sepultura and Obituary for a direct, riff-driven, old school death metal attack with hardcore and thrash undertones. Listen on Spotify.

Fulci — Risorsero dalla tomba e fu… L'Apocalisse!

Genre: Death Metal / Horror Cinematic

About: Caserta-born Fulci — named after Italian horror director Lucio Fulci and formed in 2013 — continue their long-running tradition of merging death metal with Italian horror cinema. Risorsero dalla tomba e fu… L'Apocalisse! is the original score for a short film of the same name, directed by Domenico Montixi and produced by the band themselves, premiered at the Fulcicon 2 festival in Milan. The project follows a similar path to their previous short film and soundtrack work, and sits alongside their most recent studio album Duck Face Killings (2024, 20 Buck Spin). Listen on Spotify.

And the unearthed and on rotation underground bands this week include: Battlegrave, Dragsholm, Incordia, NOTSM, Call of Charon, Infernal Seer, Ethernomorphia, Nights of Malice, Black Sanctum, and The Absolution Sequence
