Here is the Cutting Edge Metal team’s roundup of this week’s essential new metal releases…
Messticator – Total Mastery
Genre: Death/Thrash Metal
About: Formed in Hamburg, Germany in 2019, Messticator emerged as a death-thrash hybrid built on the combined weight of old-school death metal brutality and whipping thrash aggression. Their 2022 debut Forthcoming Revelation made immediate waves in the European underground, and a 2023 Slayer cover EP further underlined the band's love of classic thrash. Total Mastery is their sophomore full-length on Testimony Records, and it doubles down on everything that made their debut work — faster tempos, sharper riffs, and a refusal to compromise — with lyrical themes exploring concepts of absolute power and ruling entities. Fans of punishing, no-frills death-thrash from the old school will feel right at home. Listen on Spotify.
Gluttony – Eulogy to Blasphemy
Genre: Old-School Death Metal
About: Hailing from Sundsvall, Sweden, Gluttony have been flying the flag for chainsaw-guitar-driven Scandinavian death metal since their earliest releases. Eulogy to Blasphemy is their fourth studio album, released through FDA Records, and was recorded at Studio Blastbeat in Sundsvall with mixing handled by Jonas Jönsson and mastering by Henrik Heinrich. Drawing deeply from the tradition of bands like Grave and Dismember, the album delivers ten tracks of rotten, unfiltered filth rooted in horror imagery and anti-religious themes — plus a King Diamond cover exclusive to the CD and LP editions. For fans of classic Swedish death metal done with conviction, this is exactly what it promises to be. Listen on Spotify.
Monstrosity – Screams from Beneath the Surface
Genre: Death Metal
About: Florida's Monstrosity are one of the most enduring institutions in American death metal, having formed in 1990 and delivering their landmark debut Imperial Doom in 1992 — an album that introduced the world to then-vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher before his move to Cannibal Corpse. The band has carried the torch ever since under founding drummer and primary songwriter Lee Harrison, and Screams from Beneath the Surface is their seventh full-length, arriving eight years after 2018's The Passage of Existence on Metal Blade Records. The album was tracked across Audiohammer Studios with producer Jason Suecof and Morrisound Studios with Jim Morris, blending Monstrosity's signature technical ferocity with touches of melodeath and doom to create their most dynamic record in years. Listen on Spotify.
Mauled – When Your Eyes Are Shut
Genre: Deathcore
About: Indianapolis, Indiana-based five-piece Mauled started as a garage project before quickly selling out hometown shows and building a reputation for unhinged, pit-destroying live performances. Their self-titled EP in 2025 earned them strong underground buzz, and When Your Eyes Are Shut is their follow-up, released independently on vinyl via Silverback Gorilla Records and digitally on their own Bandcamp. The band describes the EP as a deliberate return to the raw aggression of early-era deathcore — think Whitechapel and Suicide Silence — prioritizing back-bending breakdowns and suffocating energy over modern polish. The six-track release features guest appearances from Frankie Palmeri and JP Kaine of Surfaced. Listen on Spotify.
Vanta – Perpetual Selection
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
About: Perth, Australia's Vanta have quickly made a name for themselves in the melodic death metal underground through a relentless work ethic and a strong visual and conceptual identity. Perpetual Selection is their debut full-length, released independently, and it functions as a cinematic concept record drawing on Indonesian dark folklore, survival horror, dystopian sci-fi, and cosmic horror to explore humanity's darker instincts and systemic collapse. The album fuses the melodic sensibilities of early European death metal with the aggression of modern American death metal, crafting something that sits alongside contemporaries like The Black Dahlia Murder and Inferi. It's an ambitious statement of intent from one of Australia's most exciting new heavy acts. Listen on Spotify.
Bound In Fear – A Mind Too Sick To Heal
Genre: Deathcore / Downtempo
About: Formed in Farnham, Surrey in 2016, Bound In Fear have spent nearly a decade establishing themselves as one of the most punishing forces in UK deathcore, built on a signature blend of downtempo brutality, bleak atmospherics, and deeply personal lyricism. Their debut full-length The Hand of Violence (2019) and second album Penance (2021) cemented their reputation as genre heavyweights on Unique Leader Records. A Mind Too Sick To Heal is their third full-length, and by the band's own account their most punishing and personal record yet — a twelve-track descent into darkness rooted in themes of depression, torment, and emotional collapse. Listen on Spotify.
