Here is the Cutting Edge Metal team’s roundup of this week’s essential new metal releases…
Crocell — Swarm of Insects
Genre: Death/Black Metal
About: Hailing from Aarhus, Denmark, Crocell have been a fixture of the extreme metal underground for nearly two decades. Swarm of Insects is their seventh full-length, released via Emanzipation Productions, and follows 2024's Of Frost, of Flame, of Flesh. It's the first album written alongside guitarist Mads Bertram following the 2023 passing of longtime member Rasmus "Hexen" Henriksen, and also marks the first time the band recorded the entire record themselves. The album's themes circle tyranny, oppression, betrayal, and demagoguery — with the album title evoking both biblical plague imagery and a humanity blindly feeding on whatever scraps it's given. Listen on Spotify.
The Scalar Process — Agnomysticism
Genre: Progressive/Technical Death Metal
About: The Scalar Process hail from Besançon in eastern France, and Agnomysticism is their long-awaited sophomore album, arriving five years after their 2021 debut Coagulative Matter, via Transcending Obscurity Records. The album represents a significant leap forward, weaving atmospheric and progressive textures into the band's technical death metal foundation in a way that draws comparisons to Fallujah and Rivers of Nihil. Guest contributors include Andy Thomas of Rivers of Nihil and Justin McKinney of The Zenith Passage. Listen on Spotify.
Sarcasm — Lifeforce Omnibound
Genre: Blackened Death Metal
About: Uppsala, Sweden's Sarcasm are one of the more deliberately uncategorizable acts in the Swedish extreme metal canon — deliberately avoiding the "Swedeath" and melodic death metal labels that typically define their countrymen. Originally formed in 1990 and active through the early demo era before splitting, they reunited in 2015 and released their debut full-length Burial Dimensions in 2016. Lifeforce Omnibound is their sixth studio album and arrives via Hammerheart Records, mixed and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studios. Listen on Spotify.
Gutrectomy — Slamdown Is Not a Phase, Mom
Genre: Slam Death Metal
About: Formed in 2011 in the Black Forest region of southern Germany, Gutrectomy have spent fifteen years carving out their niche at the intersection of slam death metal, deathcore, and beatdown hardcore. Their catalog includes the 2017 debut Slampocalypse and 2022's Manifestation of Human Suffering, both on Amputated Vein Records, followed by 2025's ANGST on Reality Fade. This new six-track EP is a deliberate return to their brutal slam roots, released independently via digital distribution through Arson Theory, and features guest appearances from Guttural Slug and No Face No Case. Listen on Spotify.
Belligerence — Liturgies of the Vile Ones
Genre: Death Metal
About: Berlin trio Belligerence formed in 2022 and made their initial mark with a 2023 demo and their debut EP Eschaton Foretold in 2024. Liturgies of the Vile Ones is their second EP, released via the German underground label Lycanthropic Chants, and marks a clear step forward — five tracks of high-velocity death metal drawing on the influence of Morbid Angel, Behemoth, and Vader while developing a sound of their own. The EP balances blasting aggression with groove and atmosphere, earning early praise for its punishing but well-produced approach. Listen on Spotify.
Vilt — Divine Intervention
Genre: Melodic Death/Thrash Metal
About: Linköping, Sweden's Vilt have been active since 2017, building momentum through singles and EPs — including their 2022 single "Adversary," which landed them a support slot at In Flames' Dalhalla Brinner festival alongside Killswitch Engage and Fit for an Autopsy. Divine Intervention is their debut full-length, released through GAIN/Fifth Island Music/Sony Music, marking a significant step up in profile for a band that has steadily positioned itself as one of the more promising acts in the modern Scandinavian melodic death/thrash scene. Listen on Spotify.
And the unearthed and on rotation underground bands this week include: Drown in Malice, and Bannerlord
