Here is the Cutting Edge Metal team’s roundup of this week’s essential new metal releases…
Hanging Garden - Dream Death
Genre: Progressive Death Metal
Not to be confused with the long-running Finnish doom/gothic outfit of the same name, this Hanging Garden is the solo vehicle of Dylan Cruz, a Yonkers, New York musician with past or present ties to Noxis, Scumbag, and Dissonance. Dream Death is his second full-length under the Hanging Garden name, following 2024's The God That Made Them Bow, and arrives via Transcending Obscurity Records. Fans of Death, early Sentenced, Opeth, and Krallice will appreciate the technically dense, richly textured sound on display. Listen on Spotify.
The Bleeding - Godless Communion
Genre: Death/Thrash Metal
London's death/thrash veterans have been grinding away since forming in 2010, building a catalog that runs from the 2013 Death Eternal EP through full-lengths Rites of Absolution, Morbid Prophecy, and 2023's Monokrator (released via Redefining Darkness Records). Godless Communion marks their latest full-length statement, continuing a run that's drawn comparisons to Exodus, Kreator, and Demolition Hammer along the way. The band has cited Slayer, Death, Morbid Angel, and Pestilence among their formative influences over the years. Listen on Spotify.
The Noctambulant - Revival
Genre: Melodic Black Metal
Formed in Jacksonville, Florida back in 2013 by E. Helvete and D. Franseth out of the ashes of a psychobilly project, The Noctambulant have spent over a decade fusing black metal's ferocity with Southern Gothic atmosphere and Appalachian folklore. Revival, out via Terminus Hate City, leans further into that regional identity, pulling in threads of blues, rockabilly, goth rock, and American country while keeping the band's blackened core intact. It's the next chapter after their signing to the label and follows a steady stream of full-lengths and EPs pulling from Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory, and Dark Funeral. Listen on Spotify.
Revel in Flesh - Flesh for the Kult of Death
Genre: Death Metal
Germany's Revel in Flesh formed in 2011 from the wreckage of Immortal Rites and quickly established themselves as devotees of the buzzsaw Swedish death metal sound, releasing a run of records that includes Manifested Darkness and Death Kult Legions. Flesh for the Kult of Death arrives via War Anthem Records with a reworked lineup, and by the band's own description marks a deliberate return to that early sound rather than a continuation of their more recent output. Thematically it stays in familiar territory, digging into death, cults, and decay across the tracklist. Listen on Spotify.
Hypaethral - Odyssean
Genre: Technical Death Metal
Hypaethral is a technical death metal project out of Kansas City, Missouri, built around musicians previously involved with Divine Dismemberment and Withermoth, drawing comparisons to The Faceless, Necrophagist, and Decapitated. Listen on Spotify.
